Is this dispensary licensed?

Each state keeps a public list of licensed stores. Look the store up on it. If its name and address are there, it is licensed. If not, do not buy there.

Numbers from store menus, as of Oct 7, 8:45 PM ET, before tax

Massachusetts

  1. Open the Cannabis Control Commission's list of licensed retailers: masscannabiscontrol.com ↗. If that page moves, search the CCC site for "licensed marijuana retailers".
  2. Find the store's name and address.
  3. Match the licence number. Massachusetts retail licences start with MR followed by digits. Every Massachusetts store page on GLASS shows the licence number and the legal business name it is licensed under.

New Jersey

The Cannabis Regulatory Commission lists licensed retailers on nj.gov/cannabis ↗. New Jersey does not publish licence numbers, so match the name and address. GLASS lists the stores on that list.

New York

The Office of Cannabis Management publishes licensed dispensaries. Use its verification tool ↗, or check a store on GLASS, which reads the same open data and shows the licence number, status and hours.

At the door

  • They check your photo ID before you come in. A real shop does not skip this.
  • Products come in sealed, labelled packages with the state's required warning and a test label.
  • You get a receipt. Prices on the menu match what you pay, plus tax.
  • It is a real storefront at the address on the state list, not a delivery from a car or a "gifting" shop that asks for a donation.

Red flags

  • Not on the state list. Stop there.
  • No ID check, or prices far below every other store with no explanation.
  • Products with no label, no test info, or a brand you cannot find anywhere.

Licensed does not mean cheap, or that every number on the menu is right. That is what the truth check is for.
